Barry Gersten is Head of Production for the Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) business.  He oversees sales and production for Sabal’s CMBS platform, which finances all major commercial real estate asset classes.  He has more than 30 years of commercial real estate lending and debt capital markets experience.

He joined the company in the Spring of 2020 following his most recent role as founder and managing principal of Bedrock Capital Associates LLC, a national commercial mortgage and real estate platform.  There, he crafted a floating rate and fixed rate lending program for both balance sheet retention and transactions destined for the capital markets.  In addition, he expanded the origination capabilities to major national origination firms and strong regional and local mortgage bankers.  During his tenure, the firm was sold to an investment manager providing proprietary capital enabling the firm to expand its capabilities.  Previously, Barry was Executive Vice President and Co-Head of North American Lending at Capmark Finance (formerly known as GMAC Commercial Mortgage).  He was a founding member of a new lending platform (“CII”), initially focused on transitional, floating rate transactions.  The business unit expanded to spearhead the U.S. CMBS business as well as the Canadian CMBS business.  Previously, he was a Vice President at Lehman Brothers, Inc. where he held several responsibilities including marketing for the CMBS/Conduit program as well as a member of the Mortgage Finance Group.  Prior to arriving at Lehman Brothers, Inc., Barry was a member of the commercial real estate lending team at Toronto-Dominion Bank, in New York.

Mr. Gersten started his career at Irving Trust Company (acquired by Bank of New York) and completed formal credit training prior to joining the commercial real estate group.  Barry holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University and an AB in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.
