Edward Hussey has more than 30 years of experience in mortgage lending across credit, underwriting, and production, including Fannie Mae DUS, Freddie Mac Program Plus, and FHA/HUD loan production; program, product, and policy development; credit risk management; real estate lending; and transaction management. He has been trusted throughout his career to navigate critical problem-solving initiatives with focus on generating business success, building alignment amongst internal functionality, and mobilizing people and resources.
Most recently, as SVP, Head of Multifamily Production for Agency Lending for Truist Bank / SunTrust Bank / Pillar Multifamily, Edward was the executive leader for loan production for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA/HUD loan programs and was a key member of the team responsible for preparation of Pillar for sale and negotiation for asset purchase by SunTrust. He was recognized for increasing loan production 730% and leading Pillar to approval by Fannie Mae as a special Seniors Housing lender.
Prior, Edward navigated various VP roles for Freddie Mac overseeing Multifamily Credit Risk for the Enterprise Risk Management Division, Credit Policy & Asset Valuation for the Credit Management Division, and Terms of Business Management for the Multifamily Division. Highlights through his tenure include developing principals for balancing credit policy with market share, leading the complete rewrite of the Multifamily Credit Risk Policy, and creating credit policy tightening that led the market to the first comprehensive credit tightening covering the entire line of business following the Great Recession. Edward was designated as the multifamily credit liaison to the federal regulator, FHFA, and U.S. Department of Treasury and lead Freddie Mac credit officer for the Obama Administrations’ Housing Finance Agency Initiative. He was co-chair of the Multifamily Risk Committee and member of the Corporate Enterprise Risk Management Committee.
Previously, with Wells Fargo Multifamily Capital / Reilly Mortgage Group, Edward was promoted from VP / Chief Underwriter to SVP / Chief Underwriter and was credited with developing programs integrating Wells Fargo Bank balance sheet and lending capabilities with the Agency multifamily lending platform purchased from Reilly Mortgage Group, instituting the first five-year strategy plan, and transforming focus of the Conventional Loan Underwriting Department to credit quality while reducing closing time 35%. He also led the creation of an independent underwriting function for FHA loan production with HUD’s institution of the MAP Program.
Earlier work includes VP / Chief Underwriter for Standard Mortgage Corporation, Assistant VP / Senior Appraiser (Real Estate Appraisal Department) for Hibernia National Bank, and Staff Appraiser for several real estate appraisal firms.
Edward holds an MBA from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University. He is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) through the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute and earned his Sustainable Management Certificate from Duke University. Edward completed the Getting Started in Responsible Investment program through Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Academy as well as a range of leadership coursework throughout his career.
A respected thought leader in his space, Edward was a member of the Technology and Innovation Subcommittee of DUS Advisory Committee and the DUS Chief Underwriters Forum for Fannie Mae, President of the New Orleans Sub-Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, and Co-chairman of the Finance Committee for Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, VA.
